The differences between PVCu cladding and Marley Cedral cladding
We supply and install both PVCu and Marley Cedral cladding, which from afar look to have a very similar appearance. What then, are the differences between these two weatherboard cladding options and how do you decide which is the right option for you?
PVCu cladding vs Marley Cedral cladding
PVC is a durable thermoplastic which offers a low-maintenance alternative to traditional timber cladding. It comes with a 10-year guarantee on adhesion and is available in a range of colours and finishes, from feather edge, to different woodgrain finishes or a colour render, though it is always shiplap in appearance.
You can also match your PVC cladding colour to complement your PVC fascias and soffits, creating a cohesive overall finish to your home. PVCu cladding weighs just 3.15kg per 5-metre board, which makes it 4 times lighter than fibre cement boards and offers the option of installation with improved insulation properties. It is also highly fire-resistant.
Marley Cedral Cladding
Whilst each board of Marley Cedral cladding is 12.2kg and therefore 4 times heavier than PVCu cladding, what it surrenders in easy handling it replaces with enhanced strength and durability. Marley Cedral cladding is made of sturdy fibre cement and has an estimated life expectancy of at least 50 years and is totally recyclable once it reaches the end of its lifetime.
Marley Cedral Cladding is also entirely weather, pest and rot-resistant and boasts excellent fire resistance, so your interior remains resilient against damaging external hazards. It also has the option of being installed with weatherboard cladding insulation to keep your home draft-free.
