Cast Iron & Aluminium Gutters

Cast Iron Gutters are a rainwater system that can be used in a variety of properties, but are especially ideal for listed and heritage properties.

National Churches Trust

We are proud to be working with the National Churches Trust and are responsible for looking after all church guttering in our area.

Cast Iron Gutters

Cast Iron has been a material of choice for guttering systems since Victorian times and are available in an extensive range of colours. They were introduced as an alternative to lead. If you happen to look up at some historic buildings you can expect to see cast iron rainwater systems like guttering. Not only do they look aesthetically pleasing and are in keeping with the building’s character and heritage, but they also keep water out of the buildings fabric which are super important to its structural integrity.

Combining durability and strength, a cast iron gutter is more expensive than other materials but if maintained approximately your cast iron gutters could last at least 40 to 50 years, some have even been known to last over 100 years. Cast iron can withstand the rigours of both the elements and vandalism.

Long-lasting and durable

If correctly installed cast iron gutters will last the life of the building, whether this is residential, public or commercial. Installing cast iron gutters is a heavy job and this needs to be implemented by at least two people.

Cast Iron gutters require limited ongoing maintenance which makes them an ideal choice for those wanting a minimal maintenance guttering solution. We do recommend undertaking yearly inspections but corrective action is rarely required.

If you are mindful about your environmental impact, cast iron gutters are an excellent choice as they use less natural resources than other materials used in guttering. It oxidises very slowly over time, expelling iron ashes which are carbon-based and are therefore good for the environment, as they promote growth on plants and help increase planktonic life in the oceans too, which has been said to help combat global warming. Cast iron (as a material) is also 100% recyclable too.
